The iconic Friday night fish fry is a staple of the Green Bay dining scene, especially around Lent. There are so many amazing places in the area to enjoy a more traditional fish fry that we simply can’t count them all (trust us, we’ve tried).

This time, we’re casting our nets a little bit wider to reel in some of the best alternative fish dishes in Green Bay. If you’ve got a hankering for fish or are just trying to make it through the end of Lent and are getting a little bored of fried perch, this is the list for you!

Fox Harbor Pub & Grill

348 S Washington St, Green Bay, WI 54301

Discover Green Bay recently hosted @thatwisconsincouple to try out the foodie scene in Green Bay. Their first stop was (obviously) a Friday Fish Fry. Check out what they had to say below:

"We arrived on Friday hungry and excited to be back in the area. We couldn’t wait to put more of Green Bay’s food scene to the test, this time with a fish fry! We kicked off the weekend at Fox Harbor Pub & Grill. As we walked in, we saw that it was busy and seat yourself. They are located right on the river and even have a patio out back. We made our way to the bar, grabbed a drink, and started to scope out a table. You could eat at the bar, but we were actually lucky enough to get a table very quickly. We ordered the clam chowder and the perch fish fry, and it was all very impressive! The soup was great and not overly thick. The perch fry came with 6 pieces of perfectly crispy fish, french fries, coleslaw, and rye bread. We were very impressed by this fish even though it wasn’t beer battered. The breading was thick, crispy, and flavorful for every bite. We completely understand why it is such a popular spot!"

Vintage Cantina

119 S Washington St, Green Bay, WI 54301

This has been downtown Green Bay’s hot spot for tacos for awhile now, and with so many options on the menu, you might have missed one of the best – the grilled swordfish tacos. These tacos include tequila-marinated swordfish, sriracha, mango bbq, pineapple salsa, green onion, and cilantro.

Kroll’s East

1658 Main St, Green Bay, WI 54302

This one may be a bit more on the traditional side, but it makes our list for the sheer number of options. If you’re over perch, Kroll’s has you covered with baked cod, blue gill, walleye, and even a gourmet scallop plate (we know it’s not fish, but still… yum). And, of course, if you do want a more traditional fried perch plate, they’ll be happy to serve that up, too!

Graystone Ale House

3711 Monroe Rd, De Pere, WI 54115

Graystone is another establishment that will have a little something for everyone with their Friday Fish menu that includes eight different options, including several that can be prepared in a celiac-friendly way. Try the signature ale-battered cod, oven-roasted parmesan cod, pan-roasted grouper with Mediterranean pasta, and more!

Parker John’s

2851 S Oneida St, Green Bay, WI 54304

It may be called Park John’s BBQ & Pizza, but trust us, there’s some delicious fish to be had here, too. And the best part? It’s all you can eat! Stop by on Fridays and get endless pieces of beer-batter haddock or southern-fried shrimp. Or, do the smart thing and make it a combo platter so you can sample both, plus get two sides and cornbread.

Angelina

117 N Adams St, Green Bay, WI 54301

Most of us don’t think of Italian food when we think of fish, but Angelina’s authentic Italian never disappoints. Stop by the for a taste of the true Italy and order their Salmon alla Griglia, a seared 8oz salmon dressed with evoo, lemon juice, parsley, garlic, red crushed pepper vinaigrette, and the vegetables of the day.

India Bhavan

2611 Holmgren Way, Green Bay, WI 54304

Another spot for a very nontraditional Friday fish dish is India Bhavan. Check out the fish vindaloo, a curry cooked with potatoes, coconut, and yogurt, all in a tangy spiced sauce.

Jake’s Pizza

112 S Broadway, Green Bay, WI 54303

We know people have strong pizza opinions so this one may be divisive, but stick with us. Anchovies. The unsung heroes of the pizza world. Those tiny, silvered slivers with the savory umami flavor and just a whisper of the briny sea. You either love them or you hate them, but if you’re on the love side, check out Jake’s Pizza for a delicious anchovy pie.

a’Bravo

2069 Central Ct #77, Green Bay, WI 54311

a’Bravo Bistro is another great pick if you want lots of options to choose from. Check out their mahi mahi tacos, 60 south farm-raised salmon, blackened salmon with truffle cauliflower risotto, sesame seared yellowfish tuna, and more. They’ve even got a decadent lobster and seafood mac & cheese with lobster, crab, and whitefish!
