TAKE IT FROM THE LOCALS

There’s no better way to get to know a new area than to plan your day like a local would! Here is how you want to acquaint yourself with Howard (just take it from us, your local experts):

First, you’re going to need a place to stay. The AmericInn by Wyndham is located right in the heart of Howard, and they have more amenities than you could ever even need. We’re talking free breakfast, RV parking, game room, mobile check-in, a beautiful pool, and so much more!

Once you’re rested and full from your free breakfast, it’s time to do some exploring! Start by browsing the Shoppes of Thornberry. Here, you’ll find one-of-a-kind locally owned boutique stores like Thornberry Cottage, Home Again Consignment Furnishing, and Hey Daisy. You’ll also find an incredible artisan bakery called Breadsmith, which is the perfect place to grab a freshly baked loaf of bread or a flaky croissant.

Everyone loves a friendly game of golf… mini golf, that is! Duck Creek Golf Center is the perfect place to challenge your friends and family to 18 holes of putt putt. Afterward, why not get a bucket of balls and test your skills at the driving range? It’s a great way to get your body moving while you work on your swing.

By now, it’s probably time for dinner, and everyone around here will tell you that you can’t go wrong with a reservation at “The Bend” aka River’s Bend. Locals describe it as a traditional supper club, but with an elevated twist. Try the New York Strip with a side of garlic mashed potatoes or Twin Lobster Tails with steamed asparagus. No matter what, you’re going to love your meal — and the views.

GET OUTSIDE

Are you someone who loves the outdoors? Howard is the perfect place to get out and be in nature. If you’re a golfer, get your clubs and reserve a tee time at the Village Green Golf Course, a municipally owned, public 9-hole golf course. The course, as well as the on-site pub and grill, is open April through November, weather permitting.

Feel like going for a nice hike or bike ride? The Mountain Bay State Recreational Trail is one of the longest rail-trails in Wisconsin, and it actually ends right here in Howard. You can park and get convenient access to the 83 mile-long trail at Howard Memorial Park. In the winter, it’s open for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, however, the trail is not groomed so you may want to check conditions before proceeding.

Do you have some sports-lovers in your group? You’ll definitely want to check out the Nouryon Sports Complex. It is a MASSIVE 92-acre sport complex with an 18-hole disc golf course, softball diamonds, batting cages, playground, and wooded area to hike through! Pamperin Park is another awesome park to visit. Not only do they have the largest structured playground in the area, they also have fishing spots, a disc golf course, gorgeous wooded picnic areas, and more!

IF YOU ONLY HAVE A FEW HOURS…

Can’t spend a whole day exploring? That’s alright! You can still have a great time in Howard, even if you only have a few hours. First things first; grab a handcrafted latte or smoothie from LaJava Roasting House. They also have delicious bakery and breakfast items which are so much better than anything you’ll find at a coffee chain.

Then, even if you don’t consider yourself a Harley Davidson fan, you should definitely make a quick stop at Vandervest Harley-Davidson. In addition to selling and servicing Harleys, this place has an amazing collection of memorabilia in their cabin-themed retail space, including one of Evil Knievel's bikes, which is hanging from the ceiling!

Time for lunch? You’re in luck because Anduzzi’s Sports Club of Howard is just a short 5-minute drive away. This is pub food at its finest. Trust us; it’ll be tough to choose between the wings, the craft burgers, or the pretzel bites with Spotted Cow beer cheese dip (does it get more Wisconsin than that?). If you’re there after 1pm, check out their generous happy hour specials!
