Majestic lions, lofty giraffes and happy prairie dogs can start your vacation off right with a stop at the NEW Zoo. See exotic animals from around the world, ride the zoo train or Endangered Animals Carousel and check out the tortoise exhibit. The zoo is open year-round. Surrounding the zoo is the 1,600-acre Reforestation Camp offering a variety of outdoor activities for every age. Climb the observation tower to race on the zip lines or explore the ropes course in the Adventure Park. Miles of scenic trails running throughout the camp provide the opportunity for hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, fat-tire biking and snowmobiling.
For more close encounters with animals, visit Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary and its beautiful 700-acre urban wildlife refuge that is open to the public year-round. Hike bridges and boardwalks along the seven miles of nature trails. See a variety of wildlife when you climb the observation tower and visit its educational buildings.
Just across the road from the sanctuary is Bay Beach Amusement Park. Entertaining more than one-million guests each season, the park has 19 amusement rides with ride tickets just 25-cents each. Enjoy the wooden rollercoaster, Ferris wheel, big slide, kiddie rides and bumper cars. There's plenty of picnic space to make Bay Beach a daylong adventure!
The area's natural resources give way to great entertainment like the free Waterboard Warriors Ski Show held throughout the summer on the Fox River. To sightsee by land, stop by the Segway the Fox tours office in downtown Green Bay and get some wheels to cruise around town. Follow the Historic Broadway District or Packers Heritage Trail tour paths. You can also grab your bike and try the 25-mile Fox River State Recreational Trail or the Mountain Bay Trail which starts Northwest of Green Bay in Howard, and journeys 83 miles through North Central Wisconsin. To sightsee by water, hop on the River Tyme, Fox River Tour's riverboat or rent kayaks from Expedition Addicts.
For more information on Brown County trails, visit www.foxrivertrail.com and www.mountainbaytrail.org. With 18 county parks, there is no shortage of outdoor recreational opportunities during your trip to Greater Green Bay.
