Go behind the scenes at the National Railroad Museum to explore the history and evolution of the railroad industry. Discover the archives and artifacts to see first-hand how the Museum staff curates and creates the artifacts into amazing exhibits of railroad history. Learn how the Museum acquires their trains and all the work that goes behind restoring an original locomotive during a visit to the shop facility. Learn from experts about the design, development and creation of the exhibits currently on display.
Your behind-the-scenes experience will take you to:
The Showroom - home to the Railroad Museum's train exhibits
Archives - the Museum's research center, and
The Shop Facility - where restoration work is completed.
Experience the National Railroad Museum like you've never seen before.
Absolutely no one under age 18 permitted.
No open-toe shoes permitted.
The program involves extensive walking and standing over uneven ground.
Although most of the program is conducted indoors, patrons will be outdoors to access the Museum shop.
Not all the spaces visited on this program are handicap accessible.
