GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for generating business from the social, sports, military, education, religious, and fraternal (SMERF) markets as well as the international and group markets including tour operators, travel agents, AAA offices, and any other markets that may be related. Assists with development and implementation of overall sales and marketing programs to promote Greater Green Bay as a destination to build overnight visitation and increase Discover Green Bay's economic impact on our community.

RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Achieve sales goals by working with meeting and event planners, travel managers, national organizing bodies, procurement managers, training managers, and third-party companies regionally, nationally, and world-wide intarget markets.
  • Meet annual sales goals through solicitation of motorcoach and cruise operators, tour operators, and group travel planners to include Greater Green Bay in travel itineraries and packages.
  • Implement strategies and initiatives which attract conventions, tradeshows, events, and other defined activities to Greater Green Bay by soliciting assigned sales accounts and adding new ones.
  • Initiates sales process by scheduling appointments and making presentations as well as conducting tours and site visits.
  • Generate new business by attending industry events, marketplaces, tradeshows, conventions, sales calls, and networking opportunities.
  • Assist in development of travel brochures, e-newsletters, sample itineraries, packages, and other promotional materials to be utilized as sales tools.
  • Research, develop, and implement creative comprehensive bid opportunities.
  • Detail contracts, follow established turnover procedures, and document all communications in Discover Green Bay’s client relations management system.
  • Responsible for managing the motorcoach, cruise, and leisure group sales market to include marketing, sales, and servicing of clients.
  • Assist with closure of sales by building client rapport, thoroughly explaining products and service capabilities, and problem solving to overcome objections.
  • Reports on sales activities including, but not limited to leads, bookings, room nights, attraction attendance, and economic impact.
  • Provide exceptional service to leisure travel and tour groups by maintaining excellent relationships with a diverse group of lodging, restaurants, attractions, and event organizations.
  • Continually create fresh and unique group experiences, delivering extraordinary memories to tour groups.
  • Maintains product knowledge of city and county hotels/motels, area attractions, airlines, climate, and recreational activities to serve as a resource to visitors.
  • Continually seek education of destination, top visitor markets, and our regional competitors while building relationships with hospitality partners to solicit assistance with bidding, host group business, and swerve as a resource to planners.
  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in direct sales calls, sales blitzes, tours, site inspections, familiarization tours, tradeshows, industry events, meetings, and conventions as agreed upon in the annual plan and with local stakeholders.
  • Maintains memberships in industry organizations.

  • Performs other related CVB activities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • A high degree of leadership skills is necessary, as this position is seen as the local industry leader of visitor experiences and customer service. Must be able to lead and motivate teams internally within the company and externally within the hospitality industry.
  • Knowledge of sales, marketing, and communications at a level normally acquired through completion of a two-year associate degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience required.
  • Presentation skills. Ability to give persuasive and influential presentations, which promote the values and vision of the Greater Green Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau to small and large groups of people.
  • Analytical skills necessary to complete annual department Business Plan, Annual Report as well as oversee and approve monthly visitor service reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed to serve as liaison with area hotel/motel sales directors and general managers, and community leaders and foundations.
  • A superb communicator with a strong desire to share and educate stakeholders the value of tourism to our city.
  • An individual with a strong desire to continually learn about and implement new ideas and industry best practice.
  • An individual that is passionate about the travel and tourism industry and brings that enthusiasm and positive attitude to work every day.
  • Required to follow all safety standards including but not limited to all federal, state, and organizational rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of personal computer and a variety of software systems including Microsoft Office and Greater Green Bay CVB visitor inquiry management systems.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

  • Must be able to operate a computer and standard office equipment such as fax, calculator, telephone, copy machine, etc.
  • Software used by the Greater Green Bay CVB.
  • Audio/Visual equipment such as projectors and other presentation/speaker related equipment.
  • Trade show booths, displays and equipment associated with trade shows.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent mobility and/or sitting or standing required for extended periods of time.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and other standard office equipment.
  • Requires hearing within normal range and eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read communications, reports and computer terminals.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in order to attend outside meetings.
  • Requires occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • May require some irregular work hours.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems and perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Emotional stability and personal maturity are important attributes in this position in order to deal with a variety of emotions and frustrations in making business decisions and handling difficult situations.
  • Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Requires public contact and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to give, receive, and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans.
  • Occasional high stress work may be required in the performance of this job.
  • Must be able to advise others on alternatives or options and speak before groups.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperate and the like.
  • Subject to outside office meetings, so is exposed on a frequent basis to temperature extremes.
