Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are arguably one of the most storied franchises in the National Football League. Green Bay is the smallest city to host a professional sports team. August of 1919 was an important year in the history of the team. Hometown-hero and local high school football star, Curly Lambeau along with George Calhoun, got together to form a football team in Green Bay. They received sponsorship from the Indian Packing Company. Shortly after this sponsorship the Green Bay Press-Gazette coined the term Packers, and the name stuck. In their first season, the Packers won 10 games and called City Stadium on the eastside of Green Bay their home field. The Packers joined the National Football League in 1921, 2 years after forming.
A hundred years later, the Green Bay Packers have 13 World Championship titles and are one of the leaders in the amount of team alumni in the NFL Hall of Fame. The Green Bay Packers are also the only professional sports franchise to be completely owned by its fans. This leads to the Packers often leading polls for offering the greatest fan experience and having the most loyal following. And yes, we’re proud of the Cheeseheads we wear to games! On any given gameday, you’ll find a sea of green and gold throughout the city with audible chants of Go Pack Go!

There are plenty of area attractions for the full Packers experience. You can take a tour of Lambeau Field and experience what it’s like to sit in a suite, walk through group event space, go through the same tunnel players have gone through for years and walk around the actual field. The Oneida Nation Walk of Legends and the Packers Heritage Trail are two city paths that walk visitors through the history of the team and the important role it played in shaping the city of Green Bay. The Packers Hall of Fame in the Lambeau Field Atrium is also a great way to explore the history of the team by looking at an extensive collection of Packers memorabilia.
