Mentor Moments is our monthly short-form video series in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Wisconsin, highlighting meaningful connections while experiencing all that Green Bay has to offer. For this episode, we joined Haley and Amiyah for a glowing night at the Green Bay Botanical Garden’s Garden of Lights.
From colorful light displays to playful games along the way, the evening was filled with laughter, curiosity, and those simple moments that make mentoring so impactful. As they explored the gardens together, Haley shared how special their match has been over the last two and a half years.
“My first impression of Amiyah was that she was very outgoing,” Haley said. “I was so nervous to meet you the first time, but I was surprised at just how easy our conversation was. I remember her hugging me at the end and being so excited going home.”
Programs like Big Brothers Big Sisters create space for kids to grow, build confidence, and have someone they can talk to and lean on. Haley has seen that growth firsthand.
“She’s always been very confident, but I’ve seen her confidence grow a lot, even in the last year,” she shared. “I love watching her grow.”
Beyond big outings like Garden of Lights, Haley emphasized that mentoring doesn’t have to mean something extravagant every time. Some of the most meaningful moments come from everyday experiences, whether that’s cooking dinner together, running errands, or simply spending time talking.
“There’s always something going on in the community, no matter the season,” Haley said. “But it doesn’t have to be this big outing every single time. It can be as simple as picking up groceries and cooking a meal together.”
This glowing night at the Botanical Gardens was a perfect example of how Green Bay offers experiences that bring people together, creating memories that last far beyond the moment.
