Wisconsin supper clubs and Friday fish fry go together like green and gold, but even a Wisconsinite can, dare we say, grow weary of fish fry. Sometimes you just need a little variety!

If you’re looking to expand your palate beyond breaded walleye and beer-battered perch, there are plenty of Green Bay area supper clubs where you can enjoy that classic Wisconsin supper club atmosphere while trying something a little different. We do, however, recommend pairing your pick with an Old Fashioned, the unofficial state drink that complements any supper club meal.

Keep reading to check out some outside-the-fish-fry options at these local supper clubs.

Club Chalet

Club Chalet Supper Club has been serving up the supper club experience since 1944, and today it still offers the cozy dining room, bay views, and leisurely pace that make it a great place for a very “Wisconsin” night out. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the ice cream cocktails. Club Chalet has more than 40 varieties, so if you’ve somehow never experienced the Midwestern decadence of an alcoholic milkshake, this is your opportunity.

Our recommendation: Visit on a Friday and order the Citrus Swordfish with Cilantro Butter instead of the traditional fish fry. Feeling extra hungry? The Chalet Favorite pairs a 16-ounce lobster with your choice of ribeye or tenderloin.

Heritage

Heritage Modern Supper Club takes the supper club and gives it a polished, contemporary spin. Located inside the Legacy Hotel just a short walk from Lambeau Field, it’s an especially convenient option if you’re in town for a Packers game. Inside, you’ll find cozy seating, garden views, soft jazz, and a menu that mixes familiar Wisconsin favorites with more modern flavors.

It’s also a good option for diners who usually struggle to find something beyond steak and seafood. Heritage includes thoughtful vegetarian and vegan choices alongside its meatier entrées.

Our recommendation: Try the Mill City Farms Mushroom Risotto or Roasted Celery Root Steak for a plant-forward take on supper club dining. If you’re looking for something heartier, go with the Cider-Brined Bone-In Pork Chop and pair it with seasonal sides like pan-seared Brussels sprouts or decadent browned-butter mashed sweet potatoes.

Union Hotel & Restaurant

The Union Hotel & Restaurant has been a De Pere institution for more than 150 years. It began as the Union House, a small inn built in the 1860s, and traces of that history remain throughout the building today. There’s also a great Prohibition-era story involving Great Aunt Ceil, who reportedly distilled her own homebrew in a closet to keep the Union supplied. Because the stuff was exceptionally strong, patrons were limited to one drink per visit. Luckily, today’s cocktail menu requires a little less vigilance.

Our recommendation: Skip the battered fish and try the lobster ravioli, sautéed scallops, or Ahi tuna. They’re great choices when you’re craving seafood but want something a little more adventurous.

Kropp’s Supper Club

There’s a lot of history behind Kropp's Supper Club. The restaurant opened in 1946 inside the Lawler House, which had already served as a boarding house and pub for travelers arriving by horse-drawn wagon in the early 1900s. Today, it provides diners with a nostalgic supper club experience—think low lights, intimate seating, and a “stay-as-long-as-you-like” vibe.

Our recommendation: No need to choose between surf or turf. Order the tenderloin fillet with a Maine cold-water lobster tail. You get a rich, steakhouse flavor along with the indulgence of lobster.

Long Drive Supper Club

Located at the Brown County Golf Course, Long Drive Supper Club brings a little Louisiana influence to the Wisconsin supper club tradition. The restaurant is led by a longtime executive chef from Green Bay favorite Wally’s Spot, with Southern specialties inspired by the chef’s Louisiana roots. You’ll still find the steak, seafood, and classic supper club dishes you came for, but there are some unexpected flavors along the way.

Our recommendation: Go for the Cajun Alfredo fettuccine or Catfish Po-Boy. You can take it even further with add-ons like sea scallops, lobster tail, or authentic New Orleans étouffée-sauced shrimp.

The Marq

The Marq may be best known as a wedding and event venue, but its supper club deserves some attention, too. Located in De Pere, The Marq offers the cozy atmosphere, cocktails, and hearty dishes you’d expect from a supper club, with a menu that also reaches beyond the usual classics.  One thing to know before you go: the supper club dining room is only open Friday and Saturday evenings, but if you just can’t get enough, get the supper club to go, with pickup available Tuesday through Saturday.

Our recommendation: Go classic with the broasted chicken, or switch gears with the chili-glazed Atlantic salmon. One gives you the quintessential supper club experience; the other gives you something with a little extra kick.

River’s Bend

As the name suggests, River's Bend provides beautiful riverside views while you enjoy your meal. The menu covers plenty of familiar supper club territory, but there are some fun ways to branch out. Weekly specials are especially worth watching if you’re looking for something different from your usual order.

Our recommendation: Go retro with the liver and onions, or make it a seafood night with the Seafood Feast featuring sautéed shrimp, lobster tail, and king crab. Check the weekly specials, too, like Tuesday’s Filet Fajita Bowl or Saturday's Prime Rib or Chef’s Seafood Choice.
