Are you looking for some budget-friendly ways to enjoy Green Bay this summer? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered with a huge list of events and activities all around the city that are all FREE!
Geocaching
If you have a smartphone and love hide-and-seek, you’ve got everything you need to go geocaching! Geocaching is like modern-day treasure hunting, using GPS coordinates to find caches at specific, and often hidden, locations. The caches vary in size and difficulty and can be found all over the world, including right here in Green Bay!
Gather your friends and fam and experience the thrill of discovery, or put together your own treasure trove for someone else to find. Learn more about how to get started geocaching by following Geocaching.com’s easy Geocaching 101 guide.
Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary
This beautiful 535-acre urban refuge was established in 1936, focusing on waterfowl rehabilitation. Since then, it’s grown to be the largest park in Green Bay’s park system, with an impressive array of attractions and activities for nature lovers of all ages. Explore miles of scenic hiking trails, scavenger hunts, and self-guided tours, and enjoy interactive and educational exhibits at the Nature Center.
The Wildlife Sanctuary also offers tons of opportunities for up close and personal animal observation with educational programs like wolf feedings, snake celebrations, turtle encounters, owl presentations, and more. And it’s all free! Check out the schedule of events at the Wildlife Sanctuary website.
Crescent Beach
If splash pads and wading pools simply aren’t enough to beat the heat, then why not take a dip in Lake Michigan? Take a short drive just east of Green Bay to Algoma and set up your towels and beach umbrellas at Crescent Beach! Sink your toes into the soft sandy shoreline, start your sandcastle empire, take a stroll along the half-mile-long boardwalk, gather the gang for a game of beach volleyball, or take a refreshing dip in the lake. Is there really anything better than a summer beach day? Learn more about Crescent Beach here.
Brown County Libraries
If your kiddos have had enough outdoor time, check out one of the eight Brown County Library locations to take part in their fun, free events! With weekly activities like family and toddler storytimes, musical events, Lego workshops, science demonstrations, and special performances featuring jugglers and magicians, there's always something fun happening!
For older kiddos and adults, watch the schedule for fun community programs, like evenings in the library’s edible garden, birding seminars, art workshops, and Green Bay’s annual Zine Fest! Plus, keep a lookout for the Bookmobile as it makes its regular community stops around the area throughout the summer! Check out all of the fun activities and events on the Brown County Library events page.
Splash Pads & Wading Pools
With ten splash pads and three wading pools throughout the Green Bay area, there are plenty of ways to cool down during those dog days of summer. You can find nine different splashpads at Green Bay parks throughout the city as well as a splashpad at Howard Commons in Howard.
If you want even more splashy fun, head to one of Green Bay’s three free wading pools. And, best of all, splash pads and wading pools in the Green Bay area are all free! Learn more about splash pads and wading pool locations in Green Bay here and more about the splash pad at Howard Commons here.
Green Bay City Band
Experience magical summer evenings and take in some music from the Green Bay City Band every Wednesday from June through August at 7:00 pm at St. James’s Park. The Green Bay City Band has been playing for the community since 1903 (yes, really!), making it one of the oldest performing community bands in the United States. Bring your blankets and folding chairs, and enjoy the sounds of summer! Check out the Green Bay City Band summer schedule on their website.
