Historically speaking, January is usually Wisconsin’s coldest month, but we’re fighting back the winter chills with everyone’s favorite cold-weather hero: soup!
January also happens to be National Soup Month, which gave us the perfect excuse to ask area residents where to find their favorite bowls in town. Keep reading to find your new favorite Green Bay soup as recommended by the people!
Everything at Hey Soup Sister

It’s got “soup” right in the name, so expectations are high. Luckily, Hey Soup Sister delivers. We received tons of recommendations for this popular soup spot in De Pere, but when we asked locals to pick just one soup, the answer was…all of them!
“Everything on the menu! It’s the best and super flexible for dairy-free or gluten-free folks. The cactus soup is a must!” – Kasey H.
Another local chimed in:
“Hey Soup Sister has plenty of yummy options! Curry lentil is one of my all-time favorites.” – Kahlie H.
With rotating daily specials, vegan and dairy-free options, and frozen soups to take home, Hey Soup Sister makes it very hard to choose a favorite—and very easy to keep coming back.
Lobster Bisque from Cheese Cake Heaven
If seafood is your comfort food, boy have we got the soup for you. When we polled our residents, the lobster bisque from Cheese Cake Heaven came up again and again….and again…and again!
“LOVE their lobster bisque! I always get it with the bread bowl and dip it in the soup. Perfect combo.” – alwaysaroundd on reddit
“Second the lobster bisque from Cheesecake Heaven. I also like their chili (if you consider that soup).” – ScullyCrossbones on reddit
(Is chili a soup? That might be a debate for another blog…)
Irish Root Soup at St. Brendan’s Inn
Another fan favorite, this cozy Irish classic has earned a loyal fan base in Green Bay. St. Brendan’s Irish Root Soup is a creamy puree of sweet potatoes, carrots, and leeks, making for a simple, hearty taste of Ireland.
Luckily, if you wish you could eat it every day, we have good news:
“FYI: St. Brendan's Inn & Pub is owned by the same hospitality group that operates County Clare Irish Inn & Pub in Milwaukee, and the recipe for their Irish root soup has been online for many years now. A fairly simple recipe to make at home!” – lemming_follower on reddit
So on those below-zero days when leaving the house is a no-go, you can get those same St. Brendan’s flavors in your very own kitchen. Find the recipe here.
Pho Phavorites Around Town

Green Bay loves its pho and locals had plenty of strong opinions on where to go to get your pho phix.
Resident Xue V. votes for Pho Lodge and suggests adding a kick to your pho with “ghost peppers.” hellgawashere on reddit suggests the house pho from Pho #1. And Reddit user madelinevas suggests the regular pho from Plia’s Kitchen as their “go-to soup of all time.”
Who’s the winner? The only way to phind out is to try them all!
Mushroom Brie at White Dog
Get this all-time flavor combo—mushrooms, garlic, and brie—at White Dog and you’ll likely find yourself coming back for more.
“Just went in there for the first time last week, specifically for soup, and was delighted by the mushroom brie. Outstanding.” – Gideon_Grim on Reddit
Creamy, rich, and 100% worth the visit
