And for our next pressing Green Bay inquiry, we asked residents another hard hitter: Where in the Green Bay area should you go when you’re craving a really, really good sandwich?
For this edition of the Ask a Local series, we got the scoop on the best sandwiches Green Bay has to offer from the people who know best. Check out these local favs and decide which mouthwatering sandwich you’re trying next!
Scott’s Subs

If there was a runaway winner in our local sandwich showdown, it was Scott’s Subs. Seriously. The locals were very sure about this one.
“Scott's, bar none,” said Reddit user GBpleaser.
“Parroting to say Scott’s Subs is the way to go every time.👌,” chimed in Reddit user, yourbadvalentine.
Another local on Reddit, vegan-the-dog, gave the bread some serious praise: “Scott's is fantastic. For me, it's the bread that really makes it. They are so light and fluffy.”
Plus, it’s not just the subs that make Scott’s a local fav.
“Chances are Scott will be working at the counter,” said another local Reddit user, dannoGB68, “and if you like classic rock, ask him about his guitars on the wall.”
And Reddit user phoenixpride1965 added, “The folks who work on the East side are so friendly, which just adds to their great product :)”
And apparently, Scott’s has even inspired some long-distance yearning. cramermj36 on Reddit wrote, “Scott's is unreal, and their bread is second-to-none. I left Green Bay, and I still dream about Scott's Subs.”
So, yeah. You might want to put Scott’s on the itinerary.
Cheesesteak Rebellion
For sandwiches with a side of Star Wars, head to Cheesesteak Rebellion. This popular Star Wars-themed restaurant is basically an immersive experience, packed with memorabilia, neon lights, vintage movie posters, and life-sized characters—including Han Solo in carbonite and the ever-polarizing Jar Jar Binks.
As for the food? Reddit user Slick_Ricky summed it up simply: “Cheesesteak Rebellion is always the right answer for everything.”
duper12677 recommends the Friday Surf n Turf sandwich, while craemerica says to try the Rebel Whiz with extra veggies. One local resident, Amy J., went even further: “I could literally eat the surf n turf at Cheesesteak Rebellion every single day.” (Unfortunately for Amy, the surf n turf is only served on Fridays, which might be for the best, unless she’s also up for a nap every day after lunch.)
Not By Bread Alone

At Not By Bread Alone, sandwiches have been a local staple for more than 40 years, with made-from-scratch dishes and fresh ingredients.
Some of the words we heard from locals were “awesome,” “wonderful,” and “excellent,” and local resident Alicia gave the grilled chicken portabella some love: “The grilled chicken portabella at Not By Bread Alone is my favorite. They come with BIG portabella mushrooms and a whole grilled chicken breast. So filling and delicious.”
Olive’s Pizza and Sandwiches
Located in Allouez, Olive’s Pizza and Sandwiches serves subs, grilled cheese, flatbreads, and pizza and has a quirky story behind the restaurant’s name and many of their dishes—the restaurant is named after the owner’s beloved cat, Olive!
Reddit user SilverbackCheeseHead called Olive’s their favorite, while DangerAlSmith said the Italian sub is their go-to.
And don’t forget the Greek fries. Youdont0wnme says they’re “on fleek,” which is about as strong an endorsement as you can get.
Cheese Cake Heaven
If soup and sandwiches followed by cheesecake sounds like a delightful lunch to you, head to Cheese Cake Heaven. This family-owned mother-and-daughter shop earned a shoutout from locals for its sandwiches with one local resident telling us they have their “all-time favorite tuna melt,” and “The FUGEDABOUTDIT is also really good if you like an Italian sub.”
And we probably don’t have to say it, but do not skip the cheesecake.
A Few More Local Favorites

The sandwich recommendations didn’t stop there. Locals also shouted out Pasquale’s for Italian beef and pastrami, Honey Baked Ham for ham sandwiches that are “the bees knees” (no surprise there), and Vintage Rose Bakery & Sandwich Shop for its fresh-baked Dutch Crunch sandwiches.
For gourmet grilled cheese, 888 Cheese & Co. is another local favorite, with creative combinations like the Jalapeno Corn Bread with slow-rasted BBQ brisket or black bean patty with goat cheese. They even offer a grilled cheese flight!
And for a lighter option, check out Grounded Café. Local resident Rebecca told us they have the “healthiest and most colorful sandwiches in GB,” and “nice 5 seed bread.”
Cousins also earned a spot on the local favorites list. With three locations in the Green Bay area, there’s likely one close by, and each is worth a stop when you’re craving a good sandwich.
