There's something exciting happening on the ice in Greater Green Bay! The Cornerstone Community Ice Center is preparing to welcome the Donald and Patricia Schneider Family Arena, a brand new, state of the art facility that will create new opportunities for local athletes, visiting teams, and the Green Bay community.

The $23 million project adds a fourth sheet of ice to the Cornerstone Community Center, complete with seating for more than 2,500 spectators, stadium style seating, a four sided video scoreboard, and an upgraded heating and cooling system designed to make the experience more comfortable all year round.

But this new addition is about much more than what's inside the arena.

A New Home for St. Norbert Hockey

The Schneider Family Arena will become the new home of the St. Norbert College men's and women's hockey programs, while continuing to serve the youth hockey and figure skating organizations that call Cornerstone home.

For St. Norbert, the new facility represents an exciting opportunity to attract future student athletes and elevate the game day experience.

"Their locker room spaces are as good as any Division I college program at this point," said Rink Manager, Don Chilson.

While the arena will provide a collegiate level experience, it will remain a community centered facility, welcoming young athletes and local organizations throughout the year.

Putting Greater Green Bay on the Map for Ice Sports

With four sheets of ice under one roof, Cornerstone will be uniquely positioned to welcome larger tournaments and competitions, creating new opportunities for sports tourism in Greater Green Bay.

"Having four ice sheets underneath one roof is kind of a rare thing," Don explained.

The additional space will make it easier to host USA Hockey national events, USHL competitions, and other large scale tournaments. It also opens the door for regional and national figure skating competitions that previously faced scheduling limitations during hockey season.

For Greater Green Bay, these events mean more visiting athletes, families, and spectators filling local hotels, dining at restaurants, and exploring everything the area has to offer.

And the long-term impact could be even bigger.

"I just think we're going to continue to see, because of the exposure we'll have, the hockey community in Green Bay will continue to grow," Don said.

The project was made possible largely through private donations from the community, along with $1 million in support from Brown County.

Celebrate the Grand Opening on October 30

The community is invited to get a first look at the new Schneider Family Arena on Friday, October 30, 2026, with a grand opening celebration beginning at 10 a.m.

The festivities will kick off with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by an opportunity for visitors to explore the new facility. Guests can enjoy food and coffee trucks and take a behind the scenes look at spaces that won't typically be open to the public, including the St. Norbert men's and women's locker rooms.

The celebration also coincides with the opening day of the St. Norbert men's hockey season, making it an exciting day for the local hockey community.
Whether you're a lifelong hockey fan, a parent of a young skater, or simply curious about Greater Green Bay's newest sports facility, this is an opportunity to see what's next for ice sports in our community.
