Green Bay, Wis – Discover Green Bay has announced the cancellation of the 2022 Green Bay Restaurant Week with hopes to bring the popular event back in 2023.
Green Bay Restaurant Week, typically scheduled for mid-July, began in 2012 as an effort by Discover Green Bay, the region’s destination marketing organization, to drive customers to area restaurants to experience the culinary diversity and excellence in the area. Since its founding the event has experienced great success, bringing thousands of area residents and visitors to local restaurants.
In March of 2022, Discover Green Bay reached out to restaurant partners to gauge interest and gather feedback about the event. Participants shared concerns regarding current economic conditions, costs of goods and workforce shortages impeding their efforts to ensure a positive experience for each guest during the vast increase in demand during Restaurant Week.
“The intention of Restaurant Week since inception has been to promote our local restaurants and drive new business through their doors,” said Brad Toll, President and CEO of Discover Green Bay. “The information we gathered showed that current conditions in the industry would in fact do the inverse and be taxing on our local restaurants.”
Discover Green Bay will continue its work to ensure visitors and locals alike are aware of and encouraged to visit restaurants, hotels, attractions, and events in Green Bay.
“Our restaurant partners stand ready to serve their customers,” said Toll. “But this year our hospitality industry simply cannot sustain the discounted menu items and explosion of demand generated by Restaurant Week.”
Discover Green Bay will leverage this opportunity to communicate and work closely with local restaurants to ensure that the event is beneficial to them and a great experience for patrons in the future.
