Outdoors

Surrounded by nature, Green Bay offers a variety of ways to enjoy the great Wisconsin landscape.

Gardens, sanctuaries and parks make up thousands of acres of natural spaces that can be enjoyed by visitors. Trails connect communities and encourage fun outdoor recreation. Whether it's rugged terrain for biking, admiring forest plant species or a stroll through some of the 47 acres at the Green Bay Botanical Garden, our green spaces have a little something for everyone.

The Niagara Escarpment makes for a very distinctive landscape as it crops up noticeably with its jagged cliffs in two Greater Green Bay parks. Nestled along the shore of the Bay of Green Bay, Bay Shore Park bluffs rise among wooded area. The road leading to the park's boat launch has been cut through the rock formation, allowing visitors to see the inner geology of the rocks. At Fonferek's Glen, just south of Green Bay, a waterfall is hidden among farm fields. Water flows freely in the Spring and dries as Fall approaches. Visitors are able to walk on the "dry" waterfall when viewing the Glen later in the year.

Discovering nature along the Cofrin Memorial Arboretum makes a great family adventure. Its 270-acre boundary encircles the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus. Six miles of trails provides recreation like hiking, biking, bird-watching and cross-country skiing. The Arboretum provides food and shelter for 45 mammal wildlife species and hundreds of migratory bird species.

Wildlife lovers should try birding at the 925-acre Barkhausen Wildlife Preserve. Stop at the Preserve's visitor center and then enjoy the nine miles of walking trails, ponds, marsh, forest and fields. More than 200 species of birds have been recorded.

The 1,600-acre Reforestation Camp offers a variety of outdoor activities for every age, including the NEW Zoo Adventure Park, children's play area and trails to walk and bike.
