Model railroading show.
Everyone has an idealized image of trains. Kids picture an oval around a Christmas tree, aficionados long for the magnificent steaming “iron horses”, and many adults perhaps rue being stopped at a crossing on the way to work. None of these views are wrong, but there is so much more to this country’s most underappreciated mode of transport!
Whether you are an experienced modeler in the World’s Greatest Hobby, or you just want to revisit something like that old Lionel set you had as a kid, there’s something for everyone at the sixteenth annual Titletown Train Show. This year’s show will be held at Shopko Hall in Green Bay on Saturday, April 29th from 9-5, and Sunday, April 30th from 10-4. Admission is $7 for adults; $6 for seniors; $1 for children ages 6-12; and children 5 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. $1 off second-day admission. Parking is $4 in the Lambeau Field lot.
Go for a free miniature train ride (weather permitting), win one of many door prizes given away all weekend, view stunning models and operating layouts, vote for your favorite displays, and register to win a starter train set given away at the end of the weekend. You can also enter a raffle to win a complete 4x8-foot model train setup (courtesy of the Green Bay Area Model Railroaders’ Club)!
There will be eighteen operating layouts at multiple scales, from finger-size to ones large enough to ride, with the engineers who run them just waiting to answer your questions. With nearly 200 vendor tables offering railroad memorabilia, toys, electronics, clothing, photos, videos and art work, and model railroad engines, cars, and kits in every scale, there is something for everyone who is involved or interested in trains and model railroading. Come and see what a fascinating hobby this is and you will see why model railroading is the World’s Greatest Hobby!
Fun Fact: Wisconsin is the birthplace of model railroading as we know it today: the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) was formed in Milwaukee in 1935, and that city is still the headquarters for the hobby’s largest publisher (Kalmbach Publishing) and products distributor (Wm. K. Walthers).
