he Splinter Palace is a quirky comedy that tells the story of Alice, a hubristic, scatter-brained agoraphobe co-existing in a small, hoarded space with timid Zack, a compulsive painter. Award-winning actor Logan Lark created dozens of surreal and humorous pieces in-character. “I had no idea how to generate that many paintings,” explains Lark, “So Sam suggested I create the character of Zack first, and then let him do all the work.” Director Samuel Karow’s previous films have consisted largely of documentaries, often highlighting local artisans and creatives. The inspiration for The Splinter Palace came to Karow and Lark after contemplating the life of an individual who depends on art as a form of therapy, even as it is misunderstood by others. This event is free and open to the public, with paintings from the film available for purchase. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served and a cash bar available. Doors will open at 5:00PM, and the film will begin at 6:30PM with a one hour run-time. More details can be found on The Splinter Palace’s Facebook page.

Local filmmaker Samuel Karow will premiere his new film, The Splinter Palace, on Saturday, April 20th at the Artless Bastard gallery in downtown De Pere. For one night only, Artless Bastard gallery will transform into a screening venue, with paintings straight from the film surrounding the audience.
