For immediate release It’s opening night on Monday, Sept. 18, 2017, for the 36th season of the Allouez Village Band at the Meyer Theatre, located at 117 S. Washington St. in Green Bay. Doors open at 6 p.m. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Parking is free downtown after 6 p.m. The sponsor for this first concert is the Allouez–Greater Green Bay Kiwanis. The concert is free. Donations are accepted following the concert. The theme of the 2017-2018 season is “Variety -- The Spice of Life.” The theme of opening night Sept. 18 is “Hearts, Heroes and Hollywood.” For the past 16 years Mike Ajango has been director of the Allouez Village Band, putting together the creative evenings of entertainment the band is known for. “As for this season, I’ve decided to mix things up a bit and offer more variety at each concert than usual,” he said. Introducing some of the best local vocal talent to audience-goers is important to Ajango. “Our upcoming singer for September is Kimberly Larsen, our most recent addition to the list of vocal talent joining the Allouez Village Band,” he said. Larsen, a graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, won the title of Miss Wisconsin in 2010 as Miss Green Bay Area. Larsen will perform three selections, “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina,” “Blue Moon” and “You Raise Me Up.” Paul Oleksy is assistant director of the 75-member all-volunteer band. Selections for the evening include “Summon the Heroes,” by John Williams which was written for the 100th anniversary of the modern Olympic Games. Movie and Broadway music will include “Selections from Aladdin” and “Disney at the Movies,” featuring music from nearly a dozen of Disney’s favorite films.
