A Sweet Convention in Packer Country
Maple syrup producers gather in Green Bay

Green Bay, Wis.

Green Bay, WI – As the temperature drops and our thoughts turn to preparing for winter, a group of people will gather in Packer Country and think about the sweet return of spring.

More than 250 maple syrup producers from the Midwest, Northeast and Canada will be in Green Bay next week for the North American Maple Syrup Council annual meeting and the International Maple Syrup Institute. The events will take place October 18-21, 2006 at the Regency Suites and KI Convention Center.

“The annual meeting is a great opportunity for our producers to network, view the latest technology and talk about issues that affect maple syrup production,” said Gretchen Grape, executive director of the Wisconsin Maple Syrup Producers Association. “Maple syrup technology has certainly seen its share of advances in recent years. The annual meeting gives producers a first hand look at much of the new technology.”

Throughout the convention, Grape says the morning will be dedicated to technology sessions and speakers. Afternoon events include tours of many of Packer Country’s popular attractions such as the National Railroad Museum, the NEW Zoo and the Packers Hall of Fame. Other tour options include a dairy farm, Genex Cooperative and a shopping and wine tasting trip to Algoma.

Grape says another highlight of the event is the Taste of Wisconsin night, when Wisconsin foods and products will be featured.
